Some authorities assert that the bacterian infection is attaching suine creations.Government ordered the slaughter of cattle and the meat sales restriction in the area.

An outbreak of feverish disease has already caused 19 deaths in the cities of Ziyang and Neijiang, in the province of Sichuan, in China. The oficial diagnosis is that we are in the presence of a boom of Streptococcus suine, that is an endemical microbe that lives in areas of suine creation. Besides infecting animals most of the times, the human contamination eventually happens.

The boom started one month ago, with more than 80 confirmed cases. According to the local authorities, besides the 19 deaths, there are 17 others interned pacients in a serious situation. All the victims were farmers that used to slaughter or to process pork meat in their proprieties.

Many times the factories wich process pork meat refuse animals that show infection signals and the farmers decide to slaughter and distribute the meat without the same hygienical rules.

Attention

That problem put the Chinese government and the international medical authorities in a state of alert. The first concern was with a new aviary flu outbreak. After the bacterian infection diagnosis, the government ordered the slaughter of all breeding of suine cattle in the contaminated areas. Add to that it’s prohibited the commerce and the depart of products from that area to Hong Kong and Macau.

The symptons of the infection by the pork bacteria are: fever, headache, and in the most serious cases meningites and septicemia. In every cases the contamination was caused through the direct contact with the infected pork meat. There are no evidences of the direct transmission among human beings.

The last outbreak caused by that bacteria devastated the south east of Asia in 2005.
In the current case, more than half of the pacients were attended in a serious situation and the deadliness has been very high. The effort of the central government in identifying the epidemic focus, in destroying the infected breeding and stopping with the commercialization was not just due to the Olimpic Games season. It’s important to protect the suine cattle of the country which is among the great producers of pork meat in the world.
